I saw a clump of daffodils in bloom yesterday. There were in a protected south facing spot to be sure, but it was wonderful to see them. Does anyone have something blooming in their garden yet? Hellebores, crocus, anything?

Winter veggie haul from my now-thawed garden. Mice got the carrots but they left me the parsnips, thank goodness. Rabbits ate the kale, but it's re-sprouting now, so I should get some before it goes to flower.

I'm planning to grow: San Marazzano paste tomatoes; Striped German heirloom beefsteaks; red cherry tomatoes; Black Beauty heirloom slicing tomato; and a yellow stuffing tomato. I have been out prowling nurseries that are open. This week I visited Grey Heron Nurseries, 206709 ON-26, Meaford, ON N4L 1W7. They didn't have a lot out yet, but there was a rack of Ranunculus. This is a gorgeous flower that is wonderful for cutting. The blooms are like small peonies and come in a range of colours from white, yellow, through oranges and pinks.
